Jang Noksu – King Yeonsan’s royal concubine who takes power with her innate talent and seduction.

Prince Je-an – Secret sponsor of Jang Noksu
Joseon Dynasty 1494-1506, during King Yeonsan’s reign.
Humble slave Jang Noksu catches the eye of Prince Je-an with her inborn talent. She becomes a gisaeng in Gaheungcheong (residence for gisaengs from all over the nation who are not yet accepted into the royal palace). Jang Noksu learns all arts of gisaeng from Prince Je-an, the country’s No.1 customer of gisaeng. She becomes a star overnight, and all the noblemen of Hanyang (capital of Josen) gather around to see her. Among them is Yeonsan, the king of Joseon. Yeonsan is disguised in sapsal dog costume, but Jang Noksu recognizes him nonetheless and treats him as king. She’s suddenly a powerful royal concubine. From slave to gisaeng to the king’s lady Jang Noksu uses everything to hold on to her pwer- the King’s complex, the pasts of royal subjects, even Prince Je-an’s true love.
All powers of Joseon fall under Jang Noksu’s control…
Royal subjects can no longer put up with the abuse and start taking action. Meanwhile, Prince Je-an, who is completely heartbroken after losing Jang Noksu- his lover, best student and best artist- to King Yeonsan, detects an ominous political movement and gives his last advice to Jang Noksu to save her. But Jang Noksu pushes ahead with the boating party with King Yeonsan. Noksu, who ignores Prince Je-an’s last advice, begins a boat ride that is more heartfelt than ever with King Yeonsan. Then an arrow is shot at the boat, signaling rebellion against King Yeonsan and Noksu. Armed warriors fiercely attack. Realizing that her end is near, Noksu gives her last bow to Yeonsan, and the two begin their dance- there is no regret or despair in their motion. As if the season ends, the sail falls and the anchor snaps.
